One Thousand Coffins is dedicated to raising awareness of the human cost of the Iraq war, moving citizens to responsive action - especially voting - and moving our great country toward positive change and peace.

Truly, one thousand coffins are not enough to carry the cost in human life spent in the service of the Bush administration's wasteful war. To honor those who have died in largely uninformed or misinformed service of the office of our Commander-in-Chief, we created and carried 1000 coffins draped in the colors of this country.

Where there is secrecy there is shame. We must face with open eyes and open hearts what we have been led to do in this war. We must move beyond shame into the light of effective action and new direction.

This is no small undertaking. Lives have been spent in Iraq and this heavy cost in life has been classified top secret by the Bush administration's attempt to misinform and mislead Americans into supporting the Iraq war. We can get this weight onto the scales of democratic justice by presenting it, respectfully but completely, to those who will vote in the upcoming election.

We will support and will supply materials for demonstrations by any groups who apply. Our target is to create powerful and moving marches and installations in all Election 2004 battleground states - as often as possible.

If we can prepare and present this poignant message in as many forums as possible, we can add to the education of the electorate. Good information to the people means good government by and for the people.

Beyond this, because intention is infectious, we support the courage of those who would fight for a responsible government in a world that cries for clarity and justice in leadership.
